Why And For What We Want To Lose Weight?

n recent days have come into my hands several articles on a new way to lose weight. The diet based on "Protein Enteral Nutrition," NEP, also known in Spain as the "Diet of the probe."

This weight loss therapy is based on the patient are exclusively of a protein solution through a catheter inserted into the nose, and which has been applied to comatose patients or other patients who due to various reasons are unable to lead a normal diet.

For 10 days the person undergoing this treatment must be with the nasogastric tube, and carrying a backpack containing the nutrient solution, since all food that your body will receive will be via this route. Promises a loss of up to 10% of body weight in 10 days. That is, a woman may lose 80 kilos up to 8 kilos if you do this treatment.

But is it worth to undergo this treatment by some associations qualified expert in nutrition and aggressive and reckless? To answer this question I previously questioned why the patient wants to lose weight?

Inclusion in 1 of two groups:

- Group A: Looking for a quick weight loss weight in a very limited time because I have a particular social event and want to lose 1 or 2 sizes then. I do not care to be a weight loss point and then back up. I have willpower and I submit to all, but only for a time.

- Group B: Looking for a steady weight loss that is maintained over time, I am a person who understands that a persistent change is not achieved quickly. What I want is to lose 6 kilos in a month, but not to increase the weight I lost either 1 kg. or 10. I do not want to be overweight or obese anymore. I know if I want to maintain weight loss after one or two years after treatment, requires a change of habits and make physical activity a daily basis.

Brides, entrepreneurs with a social event ... is decantarían the first option. We must be realistic, losing much weight in a short time and not suffer, it may be feasible with this weight loss therapy, but why not also with liposuction or be based on protein shakes a given time. I opt for this or any other method, provided it is not dangerous to health, we only know that will mean a loss on time and probably will regain all the weight back. If this is accepted, no problem.

I opted, however, by the option B. I want my patients, who visit us in The Palasiet every year, come more and a few pounds less, they leave our house with strength to face a new challenge, need not be a huge purpose only comply for a months. I'd rather not be as demanding, and propose a small healthy change (walk 1 hour or so 2-3 times a week?, Take the glass dulcecito or only on weekends?, Try new recipes something lighter?). Accept that change some habits so ingrained in our habits is an effort, but if you intend to do them all at once, and we adapted to our daily lives, whether we are more flexible and we compensate our excesses, certainly not in 10 days but over many years and keep not lose 10, but many more kilos of loss.
