For years, every time I hired a trainer to help me lose weight, I always talked about keeping a journal of my diet, and had no idea what they meant. Well, they talked about writing down everything you eat throughout the day, and physical activities you do, that way you would have a record of what must change in order to achieve you goal of losing weight. But let's we see it who wants to do that?
After having my daughter Mia, I was determined, but I had not committed to losing the 26 kg I gained before and after my pregnancy. The truth is that I spent time with my coach whining and complaining of the weights and exercises that told me to do as a daily routine - "oh, my neck hurts," "oh my back", "I can not raise that weight, this is too "" I have a headache "- all kinds of excuses for that time passed quickly, bone was all I did cardio on the stationary bike for 45 minutes, my friend sat beside me and talked all the time, or I was not paying attention to doing it the right way. Never listen to the advice of my coach and, of course, never opened my journal to write anything.
When I checked myself at the end of the week with the hope that the scale showed I had lost weight, I was surprised to see that weighed the same or even more! I was very frustrated and when I saw my coach I complained "why have not lost weight?" Thinking it was his fault and that he was not doing their job! But his response was "Let me see your journal" and my response was I did not need it. He said: "Ok, tell me what you ate this week." When I started to remember how many times I went to Starbucks, how many times I skip a meal, and I went to the "happy hour" almost every day, I found the answer to my question!
These days, after committing the most important person in my life - I - I have learned that tracking what I eat and how much exercise I do, it helps me improve my eating and my workouts at the gym to succeed with my weight. Therefore I highly recommend starting a journal, and reviewed every week in order to help them achieve their weight loss goals.
It need not be anything fancy, it may be a notebook and start writing down what you ate for breakfast, lunch, snack and dinner.
BUT - you have to be honest and write absolutely everything you ate during the day, I mean everything.
Currently you can keep track of calorie intake with you phone. Some smartphones have free applications (such as losing weight for the iPhone) you can use to track your activities and food you consume daily. If you have one of those luxury phones, you can get free samples online. Some famous coaches have excellent examples of how to keep a journal in its publications, such as Jillian Michaels "Making the Cut"
Keeping a diary will help you know what you're getting into your body, and how much effort you really are putting your commitment to lose weight. Do not waste your time and money, do not need a trainer or a nutritionist luxury to take control of your weight. Just being in charge, to change bad eating habits and control your weight without spending a fortune.
No more excuses, let laziness aside, and start living your life as healthy as you look fabulous - You Can Do It!
